BLUEBELL VINEYARD WINS 2010 SOUTH OF ENGLAND COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE ENTERPRISE AWARD
Michelle from the Countryside Alliance says: This is an exceptional enterprise, producing quality sparkling English wines. With 14,000 vines planted in 2005 and 9,000 more in 2009, the enterprise is literally taking root on a former pig farm that had been lying dormant for a decade. This category is all about lateral thinking, taking chances and having a vision, and Bluebell Vineyard Estates has vision in abundance. With a commitment to supporting local businesses and employing local people, this award winning enterprise has really arrived and has a great future ahead of it.
UNITED KINGDOM VINEYARD ASSOCIATION
At the first UK Vineyard Association (UKVA) awards that Bluebell has entered, the 2007 Hindleap range gained unforeseen acclaim picking up a number of medals, with the Blanc de Blancs gaining a silver, the Classic Cuvée a bronze and the Seyval Blanc a highly commended. The awards ceremony was held at the House of Lords and was attended by many of the UKs most prominent growers and producers. Kevin Sutherland and Andy Hope collected the awards and enjoyed the day out in London including posing for some pictures on the riverside terrace at the House of Lords.
Fingers crossed for the 2008, which is tasting better and better (we think!), and this year we have a Rosé too!
SOUTH EAST VINEYARD ASSOCIATION
Bluebell Vineyard secured second spot with its Blanc de Blancs, Hindleap 2007, also a maiden vintage. With Andy Hope as Wine Producer and Kevin Sutherland as Consultant Winemaker, the Hindleap is a slightly fresher style than the Gusbourne. Sutherland, known to many as head of viticulture at Plumpton College, is a stickler for precision. 'I say when the fruit is to be picked!'. It is very lightly pressed, we split the pressings into two [for fermentation], eventually recombining them.
November sees the launch of the branding and marketing, with the website going live and the labels finally making it onto the award winning 2007 vintage.
